In September 2023, Consul General Weert Börner and Dr. Imke Börner paid a two day visit to Osogbo, Osun State, in order to learn more about Yoruba culture as well as the various economic and scientific endeavours in this state capital. Part of the programme was an extensive visit to the wonderful Osun Sacred Grove with its impressive sculptures in the midst of the rain forest.

A guided tour through the textile art workshop of Chief Nike Okundayo showed not only impressive fabrics but also how the production of the famous Adire textile has created at least 200 stable jobs there. It was highly interesting to get a glipmse of the premises of this textile art production hub.

The Consul General and his spouse also visited the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding - an important institution for human sciences cooperation in Osogbo. The Director, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, introduced his staff and offered a campus tour with a focus on the long-standing cooperation with German scientists such as the late Prof. Ulli Beier.

Another highlight of the visit was a courtesy call to the Alayemore of Ido-Osun, His Majesty Oba Adedapo Aderemi Adeen. It ended with a kind and open discussion about various political and social issues concerning both Nigeria and Germany ; and by extenstion, Africa and Europe in general.
