Important Information for minors

For the visa application of a minor, as a rule, both parents have to be present at the minor’s appointment at the Consulate General.

If one parent is unable to attend for justified reasons, we require a declaration of consent from the absent parent. This declaration of consent is only valid with a certified signature from the absent parent. This signature can only be certified at a German diplomatic mission abroad, a competent German authority, or a German notary. In addition, a copy of the absent parent’s passports will have to be presented at the visa appointment with the minor.

If both parents are unavailable for clearly justified reasons to accompany the minor to the appointment, in exceptional cases the parents may issue a declaration of consent to a third adult person, allowing them to accompany their child and to apply for a visa in their stead. This person has to be able to identify him- or herself by showing their international passport, voter’s card, driver’s license or NIN slip (original and one copy).

The declaration of consent issued to a third-party has to be signed by both parents and has to be notarized as well by one of the above-mentioned German authorities. In addition, a copy of the parents’ passports will have to be provided.

In both cases, you need to use this template for the declaration of consent.

The original of this document must be presented when applying for a visa. Copies will not be accepted.
