If you have recently moved to Nigeria, you have the option of changing your place of residence in your passport and / or identity card.

The Embassy in Abuja issues passports and identity cards to German citizens who have their usual place of residence in the following states of Nigeria: Adamawa, Benue, Borno, Federal Capital Territory, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Koggi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara.

The Consulate General in Lagos issues passports and identity cards to German citizens who have their usual place of residence in the following states of Nigeria: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Rivers.

Application

Applications for a change of residence can only be submitted in person and by appointment at the passport office. Appointments can be booked here for the Embassy in Abuja and here for the Consulate General in Lagos.

If you are unable to attend a booked appointment and wish to cancel/change it, please notify us using our contact form.

Documents to be submitted

All documents must be submitted in original and copy when applying. This also applies if the same documents have already been submitted to the Embassy for another purpose. Documents that are not written in German or English must be accompanied by a German translation from a recognized translation agency.

• Current passport
• Application form completed entirely in block letters
• Confirmation of deregistration from your last place of residence in Germany
• Proof of residence in Nigeria (e.g., confirmation from your employer)
• Proof of legal residence in the host country (visa, residence permit, Nigerian passport for dual citizens)

Please note that additional documents may be required in individual cases. You will then be asked to submit these when or after submitting your application.

Fees

The change of residence is a free service.
