What documents do I need?
Instruction:
The following documents have to be submitted as indicated below:
• Sort your application according to this list.
• The required documents must be submitted in full at the personal interview. Documents sent in advance cannot be considered.
• Do not staple any of the documents.
• Copies need to be in DIN A4 format and black/white. Copies in color will not be accepted.
• Incomplete and unsorted applications will not be accepted.
Please Note: The Consulate General reserves the right to request further documents.

Sorting list with explanation:
- signed declaration by applicant (or legeal guardian) with place and date
- signed Regulations by applicant (or legeal guardian) with place and date
To accept a visa application for a minor, we require a declaration of consent from all legal guardians.
If not all legal guardians attend the child's visa interview:
- The absent guardian must provide a letter of consent with signature of absent parent.
- Present a copy of the absent parent's passport at the appointment.
If both parents cannot attend (exceptional cases with justified reasons):
- Parents may authorize a third adult to accompany the child and submit the application.
- The third party must show ID (passport, voter's card, driver's license, or NIN slip – original + copy).
- Both parents' signatures must be notarized by a German authority.
- Include copies of both parents' passports.
If only one parent has the sole custody:
Custody order showing:
- Children aged 3+ were heard (directly if 14+, or via neutral authority).
- The other parent was heard (or court made reasonable efforts to locate them).
- Issued by a competent court.
Nigerian court orders require document verification (fee requested at interview).
If the other parent is deceased:
Death certificate of the deceased parent.
If the child is adopted:
Certificate of recognition issued by a German family court. More information.
a. if applicable: current German residence permit of person living in Germany

- We do not accept “Fiktionsbescheinigungen”
b. Passport of Person living in Germany
- Copy of data page
c. German registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung)
- Not older than 6 months
d. Entry and exit stamps
From all visits to Nigeria by the person living in Germany.
e. if applicable: Divorce decrees of earlier marriages
- Divorce decrees of all previous marriages.
The divorce must have been legally binding before the new marriage was entered into.
Nigerian divorce decrees: Issued by the locally competent court.
German divorce decrees: With “Rechtskraftnachweis” (proof of legal force).
f. if applicable: proof of income
- Only required if the person in Germany is a DAAD scholarship holder.
- original passport + copy of data page
- issued in the last 10 years
- valid for at least 6 more months
- at least two free pages
- as proof of a legal residence status in Nigeria
- only for applicants with a nationality other than Nigerian
For births before December 15, 1992
1. Certified copy of the local birth register extract based on the first registration
and
2. Affidavit* (“Declaration of Age”) of one parent or the head of the family** if both parents are deceased
and
3. Copy of an identity document showing the signature of the person making the affidavit
For births at or after December 15, 1992
1. NPC birth certificate, issued from the NPC of your place of birth
if you do not have a birth certificate from the NPC:
1. Certified copy of the local birth register extract based on the first registration
and
2. Affidavit* (“Declaration of Age”) of one parent or the head of the family**
and
3. Copy of an identity document showing the signature of the person making the affidavit
* If necessary with a note of illiteracy, preferable e-Affidavit
** Head of family and at least 10 years older than the applicant

- In addition, a copy of an identification document must be submitted showing the signature of the person making the affidavit.
- Issued by the competent court
For example, if you changed your name or there was a mistake on any of your documents
e.g.
- Affidavit of Change of Names (with the published newspaper advertisment)
- Affidavit of Reconciliation of Names
- Affidavit of Spinster- / Bachelorhood
- Affidavit of Facts
• if necessary, with a note of illiteracy
• issued by the competent court
Additionally, a copy of an identification document must be submitted showing the signature of the person making the affidavit
that prove your identity

- as proof of a legal residence status in Nigeria
- only for applicants with a nationality other than Nigerian

d. if applicable: Marriage certificates and divorce decrees of earlier marriages
- Divorce decrees of all previous marriages.

Certificates issued by any institution testing in accordance with the standards of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) are accepted. The test may not be older than one year.
