Verification of Nigerian Documents
The legalization of public documents and certificates was ceased in May 2000 due to the lack of security features in Nigerian documents. It was replaced by a verification process in which Nigerian public documents are verified upon request by a German court or authority.
The authority in Germany is in charge of the process. The verification process can only be initiated on request of a German authority (e.g. Registry (Standesamt), court), not by a private person. Therefore, kindly contact the competent German authority for all enquiries.
During the period of investigations, applicants are kindly requested to refraim from enquiries regarding the state of the investigation. It is not possible to answer such requests due to the large number of documents being processed by this Office.
Important information!
The former fee for verification of documents of 150.0000 Naira will be increased from 15.03.2023 due to inflation, rising aviation costs and security concerns in Nigeria.
For verifications in locations within the following northern states, the fee will now be 250,000 Naira: FCT, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Nassarawa, Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno. This means when a person or institution located in one of these states has to be verified, the fee applies to this case.
For verifications in all other locations, the new fee will now be 180,000 Naira.
All appointments on or after 15.03.2023 are subject to the new fees.
We are also aware of the cash scarcity in Nigeria at this time. We are already working on a solution to offer non-cash payments but are not able to provide this option for now.
If you are unable to acquire your verification fees in cash by the time of your appointment, you can still submit your application and will be given more time to submit the fee at a later date. This only applies to the verification fee – not the visa fee. Visa fees have to be paid in cash at your appointment.
We only accept new Naira notes in 500 and 1.000 Naira bills. No other currencies.
We kindly ask for your understanding in this turbulent times.
