Visit of Jennifer Morgan, German State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action, to Nigeria
The State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action at the Federal Foreign Office, Germany, Her Excellency Jennifer Morgan, will visit Nigeria from the 5th to 7th of May 2024. Her visit is another sign of the manyfold and intense exchanges between Germany and the Federal Republic of Nigeria that aim at deepening existing bilateral relations, with a specific focus on green energy and climate action Secretary of State Morgan will meet with representatives of the Nigerian government and important players in the Nigerian power sector to discuss German-Nigerian Cooperation in the field of renewable energy and green hydrogen in line with efforts towards implementing commitments to international climate agreements. Finally, the visit aims to explore ways to improve Nigeria’s energy supply through green energy.
She will be visiting Abuja and Lagos, and during her visit will engage with representatives of civil society to discuss climate and environmental issues. Visits to local projects funded by the German government will provide Secretary of State Morgan with practical insight into the process involved in improving energy access and transitioning to a green economy. The link between the climate crisis and security risks such as resource conflicts will be addressed in her discussions and project visits.
In Lagos, she will give a public lecture on climate and energy policy at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). She will meet with representatives of the finance sector as well as business representatives to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the green transformation in Nigeria. Secretary of State and Special Envoy for International Climate Action Morgan will also give an interview with Channels TV on German-Nigerian relations and specifically on the potential of cooperation in the area of energy and climate – tune in!
